Twenty steel micropiles created an additional load path to suitable bearing strata.
An office building was undergoing active settlement, with new cracks appearing along its front elevation. Following an in-situ Dynamic Cone Penetrometer investigation and assessment of the available remedies, URETEK Vietnam selected a supplementary foundation comprising 20 steel micropiles to arrest further settlement.
The challenge
Active settlement had been observed since late 2023 and was producing further cracking. The remedy needed to create an additional load path to suitable bearing strata while working within strict operating and safety controls at an industrial facility.
The solution
URETEK Vietnam carried out an in-situ Dynamic Cone Penetrometer survey, assessed remedy options and prepared the method statement for a steel-micropile system. Twenty micropiles were installed to the as-built layout. Installation pressure was recorded by depth for every location, with continuing coordination and monitoring by the site engineering representatives.
The outcome
The project report and handover record confirm delivery of all 20 micropile locations, completion and handover on 18 November 2024, and satisfactory assessments for quality, quantity and schedule.
